STEM in Action: Narrow Water Bridge
Our P7 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting and inspiring visit to Carrick Primary School, where they took part in a hands on bridge building workshop linked to the new Narrow Water Bridge project.
The session was led by professionals from BAM Construction, including quantity surveyors and engineers who are working directly on the bridge. Pupils were given a fascinating insight into how bridges are designed and built, while also learning about the wide range of careers available within construction and engineering.
Working collaboratively in teams, pupils designed and constructed their own model bridges, exploring ideas around materials, strength and stability. It was fantastic to see them thinking like real engineers – testing their designs, identifying weaknesses and making improvements along the way.
Pupils also learned about the history of the Narrow Water area, adding valuable local context to their STEM learning and helping them understand the importance of the project within our community.
This was a brilliant, engaging day that truly brought STEM learning to life and inspired our future engineers.
A big thank you to BAM Construction and Carrick Primary School for providing such a fantastic learning experience for our pupils.
